DJ Selecta

A legendary pioneer of the Pittsburgh DJ and Hip Hop scene since the late 1980s, James Scoglietti, better known as DJ Selecta, started his radio career at the age of 16, eventually hosting and spinning the turntables at multiple college radio programs on two local college radio stations. In 1998, he was named “Best Hip-Hop Radio Personality” by In-Pittsburgh News Weekly, and the following year he opened Pittsburgh’s first Hip-Hop retail music outlet, 720 Records. Selecta won another career first award in 2018 w/ the Pittsburgh City Paper Readers’ Pool voting him Pittsburgh’s #1 DJ.

DJ Selecta has hosted a number of celebrated residencies at some of Pittsburgh’s hottest venues, including the Cultural District and supported many international touring artists such as De La Soul, Pharcyde, and The Roots. He currently hosts a weekly funk & soul-based radio program (Grand Groove Radio) on Pittsburgh’s NPR-affiliate, WYEP. His love for music is inspired by De La Soul, Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo.
