DC Music Rocks Festival

DC Music Rocks Festival

With a base in music education, Girls Rock! DC aims to create a supportive, inclusive, and creative space for girls, non-binary, and trans youth of varying racial, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic backgrounds; abilities; identities; and experiences to develop their self-confidence, build community, stand up, and rock out! Following in the footsteps of girls rock camps across the United States, Girls Rock! DC was founded in October 2007 by an all-volunteer collective of DC metro area musicians, teachers, artists and community organizers. We build upon our diverse experiences and musical backgrounds, connections to local youth, and approaches to grassroots organizing to create a week-long day camp, for Washington, D.C. area girls ages 8-18, as well as an after school program. During the week, campers receive small-group instruction on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, turntables, digital music, or vocals; form bands, and collaborate to write an original song or DJ set, which they perform at a showcase at the end of the week. Campers also learn about the history of women in rock, gender and cultural identity, ways to dismantle systems of oppression, band merchandise and promotion, conflict resolution and other skills young folks need to take over the world of music!

featuring Black Dog Prowl

Black Dog Prowl is considered one of Washington, DC's hardest hitting rock bands. The four-piece showcases original material ranging from the slow, down-tuned to a fast-paced kick in the teeth. The band has built their reputation on a powerful live show, playing and headlining notable DC area venues over the past decade and sharing the stage with renowned acts like Steel Panther, Candlebox, The Parlor Mob, The Answer, and A Thousand Horses. In 2016, the band recorded and released the EP Have A Little, featuring the single "Shame." Independently released, Have A Little marked the band's first new release since the 2013 single "No Robots" and their fourth studio effort. On March 2017, as the band embarked on a tour through Mexico, Black Dog Prowl also digitally released The Voice Memo Bootlegs. The live EP is a compilation of live tracks from the band's live and acoustic sets, including the debut of the previously unreleased track "Salt the Earth," a song which will be among the band's newest material, set to be released in the Summer of 2018.
